The AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition" based on BMW 318ti

1987 - 1997: 10 years AC Schnitzer - a decade full of milestones in the field of BMW tuning.

We have celebrated this big anniversary with the special model ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition" which was manufactured in an exclusive small series of 10 vehicles only. This car was manufactured on the base of the 318ti compact and has been driven by a 260 hp / 191 kW six-cylinder four-valve engine. With a sprint-time of 5,6 seconds only from 0 - 100 km/h and a maximum speed of 258 km/h, the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact was one of the fastest "small cars" of the world.

The conversion to the 3.2 litre six-cylinder engine was made with the exclusive use of approved large series parts to guarantee a quality to cope with the highest demands. In contrast to the standard 140 hp four-cylinder engine, the 3152 ccm engine powered 260 hp / 191 kW and supplied 333 Nm of maximum torque at 4400 revs.

Corresponding to the improved power output there was assembled the five speed manual gearbox from the Z3 M-roadster which was upgraded with the AC Schnitzer Short Shift gear-shift travel shortage to make shifting even quicker and more precisely. The standard 318ti compact rear axle differential was exchanged for a stronger unit with longer transmission-ratio and 25 per cent differential lock.

So prepared, the special model realised driving performances which were able to compete with the ones of genuine sportscars. The sprint from 0 - 100 km/h took 5.6 seconds only and with a top speed of 258 km/h, the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition" was one of the fastest ”small cars” all over the world.

The Brakes of the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition"

Regarding the deceleration elements, AC Schnitzer also doesn’t make any compromises: The ABS-controlled brake system contains 2-pot floating calipers and vented Compound brake discs with 334 millimeters of diameter at the front axle. At the rear axle there also installed bigger dimensioned elements. 328 millimeters large discs are decelerated by 1-pot floating calipers. Special brake linings keep the system pressure on a constantly high level.

The Suspension Technology of the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition"

The suspension package of the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact included special gas-pressure shock absorbers and shorter, progressive springs which are responsible for a lowering of the car by 35 millimeters, and special anti-roll bars.

Of course the RS adjustable suspension of the ACS3 3.2 compact "10YLE" has been tested on the North Loop of the Nürburging as well as on public roads.

The chassis conversion also contained of the one-piece, black-painted, AC Schnitzer Type II light alloy rims in the dimension 8,5J x 18 all around. Tyres in 225/40 R 18 front were responsible for the transmission of the steering forces while tyres of the size 255/35 R 18 on the rear axle bring the power on the road.

The Bodywork of the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition"

To improve driving stability especially at high speeds, AC Schnitzer dressed up the compact with a front apron with large brake cooling ducts which was especially developed for the ACS3 3.2 compact, a three-piece rear spoiler and a roof spoiler.

The sporty look was completed with elegant side-skirts and the aerodynamically shaped, AC Schnitzer sports-side-mirrors.

AC Schnitzer design stripes in red colour on the body and the rims and the logo "10 Years Limited Edition" label the anniversary car on the outside.

The Interior of the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition"

The interior of the AC Schnitzer ACS3 3.2 compact "10 Years Limited Edition" wasn’t only refined with body-contoured sports-seats, airbag-sports-steering-wheel and cockpit panels in Carbon: The special model also offered an exclusive atmosphere in the cockpit with the leather upholstery in sporty-elegant AC Schnitzer pinstripe design with red seams.

Charming visual contrasts were placed with gear-shift-lever-knob, pedals, foot-rest and hand-brake-lever in aluminium. An aluminium-made type label with the serial number of the special model labeled the anniversary car on the center console.
